Edina mayor to participate in InterCity
Leadership Visit
Edina, Minn., Sept. 21, 2005 – Edina Mayor Jim Hovland will travel this weekend with a
delegation of more than 100 Twin Cities business and community leaders to Dallas-Fort Worth to
study the region’s economic development, education system, transportation, housing and
recreation opportunities.
The Sept. 25-27 trip is the fourth-annual InterCity Leadership Visit hosted by the Minneapolis
Regional Chamber of Commerce and St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce. The delegation
includes representatives from the City of Bloomington, City of Minneapolis, Metropolitan Council,
Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, Qwest, University of Minnesota, Urban Land Institute, Wells
Fargo Bank and Xcel Energy, to name a few. Hovland’s trip will be sponsored by the I-494 Corridor
Commission and Edina Chamber of Commerce.
The group will look at Dallas’ and Fort Worth’s major successes in creating a multimodal
transportation system, their challenges with downtown revitalization, efforts to bring economic
success to an increasingly dominant ethnic community and current debate around effective local
government structures.
“As we look at the key issues facing our region, we believe that Dallas-Fort Worth provides us with
the opportunity to explore such topics as regional economic development and strategies,
transportation, downtown revitalization, arts and culture as an economic development strategy,
