FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Planning Commission to hold work session to
discuss study
Edina, Minn., Feb. 24, 2005 – The Edina Planning Commission will hold a special meeting Monday,
March 14, to discuss a recently completed study of the City’s subdivision ordinance.
At the work session, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th
St., consultant Ingraham & Associates will present its findings and make recommendations to the
Planning Commission and five-member Subdivision Task Force.
Concerned about the impact of subdivisions on existing neighborhoods, the City Council last year
ordered the study. In addition, the Council appointed a task force, comprised of residents with
backgrounds in such areas as architecture, law, property appraisal, planning and real estate, to conduct
an independent review and make recommendations as to a subdivision policy. Specifically, the task
force was charged with reviewing subdivisions that have been approved in recent years; evaluating the
impact of these subdivisions on the character, symmetry and property values in those neighborhoods;
reviewing subdivision ordinances in similar communities and recommending changes to the local
ordinance, if warranted.
The Planning Commission is expected to act on the recommendations brought forth as a result of the
study and forward its opinion to the City Council. The City Council will likely hear the matter in April. For
more information on the special meeting or the study, contact the City’s Planning Department, 952-826-
0369.
