Children’s contest winner to lead July 4 parade
Edina, Minn., April 26, 2005 – Edina children have a chance to lead the 2005 Fourth of July parade by
entering the sixth-annual “Why I should be the kid to start the parade” contest sponsored by the City of Edina.
To enter, children in grades 1-6 should write an essay, 50 words or less, explaining why they are best
for this important position. Younger children may submit color drawings instead of essays. The theme
for this year’s parade is “Hands Across Edina.” The winner will help start the parade and ride alongside this
year’s grand marshals, former mayors Jim VanValkenburg, Fred Richards and Dennis Maetzold.
Essays and drawings should be labeled with the child’s name and address and sent to Edina Fourth of
July Parade Committee, Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St., Edina, MN 55424. The contest ends Friday,
May 27.
The winner will be notified in June and will step off the parade at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4.
For more information, call Recreation Supervisor and Parade Committee staff liaison Susie Miller, 952-
