Potters' Games pit pros against amateurs in
hilarious events
Edina, Minn., March 21, 2005 – Wheels will spin and fingers will fly at the fifth-annual Potters' Games
April 9 at the Edina Art Center, 4701 W. 64th St.
The games, involving professional potters, students and amateurs, include intense and sometimes
hilarious competitions to create the tallest vessel or largest bowl or roll the longest clay coils. Games
begin at 10 a.m. and go until 2 p.m. Come to watch or join in! Admission to the games is $3.
Other events include identifying a particular glaze and various potters' works. There also will be a
"musical wheels" event and competitions to make the most bowls in 10 minutes or create works in
relays. Some potters will even throw bowls with their feet! Children can make tiles to take home. Pots,
bowls and other pieces created at this fun event will be glazed and fired and made available for
purchase at the Art Center's booth at the Edina Art Fair in downtown Edina on June 3, 4 and 5.
Proceeds will benefit the Edina Art Center.
The Potters' games are open to all; no experience is necessary. It's a fun way for amateurs to learn
about making pottery and to compete with the pros. Snacks will be available. To register, call the Art
Center at 612-915-6600 or check in the day of the event.
