Reuse in Style: Edina’s 2024 Halloween Costume Swap is Fast Approaching
Edina, Minn., Sept. 11, 2024 – Halloween is fang-tastically fun, but this holiday also creates a scary large amount of pollution. Instead of buying a new costume this year, creep over
to the City of Edina’s swap and bring that boo-tiful bundle of getups? It'll be a real treat! This reuse-focused event will be held 4-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Edina Senior Center,
5280 Grandview Square.
The costume swap is open to everyone, including nonresidents and families. Participants are encouraged to bring costumes that are clean, dry and in good shape to swap with other people,
but no donation is required to join, and everything is free to take home. Items leftover will be donated.
Pre drop-off is available Sept. 23-27 at the Edina Senior Center lobby during business hours.
Costumes for all ages and types are encouraged for the swap for both human and pets. Only registered service animals are allowed in the building for the swap.
Don’t leave personal items unattended and keep food and beverages away from costumes.
“Costumes made from cheap materials and shipped from far-off places add up to a monster-sized carbon footprint,” said Organics Recycling Coordinator Twilia Singh. “With millions of costumes
bought each year, most only worn once, we're contributing to a growing textile waste crisis. Maybe it’s time to give our Halloween choices a fresh look.”
