Goetzke, Hirsch finish first in Duck Chase
Edina, Minn., Oct. 6, 2004 – Kirt Goetzke and Mary Hirsch were leaders of the pack – or flock – as they won
the male and female divisions of the Great Duck Chase Sunday, Sept. 26, in Edina.
Goetzke, of Plymouth, finished the 5K race with a time of 16 minutes, 27 seconds, and Hirsch, of Edina, took 20
minutes, 28 seconds to complete the run/walk at Centennial Lakes Park.
“It was a very nice race to run,” Hirsch said. “It was very pretty.” Hirsch said she is a full-time mom who runs for fun
and competes in many 5Ks. The Great Duck Chase was well-organized and she plans on running in the event
again next year, Hirsch said.
The Great Duck Chase was one of four races Goetzke ran the last weekend in September before running in the
Twin Cities Marathon Oct. 3. Goetzke has run in more than 1,000 races in his career, and said he is prepared to
defend his Great Duck Chase title next year.
Approximately 50 men, women and children competed in the second-annual Great Duck Chase. The event also
included a 1.5-mile Fun Run comprising one loop of the longer five-kilometer pavement path, which was completely
within the confines of Centennial Lakes Park.
