FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Human Rights & Relations Commission to Host Community Conversation Oct. 22
Edina, Minn., Sept. 30, 2023 – In an era of outright hostility to the LGBTQ+ community in many parts of the country, the Edina Human Rights & Relations Commission will host “Pride in
Edina? Welcome!” a conversation on making Edina welcoming for LGBTQ+ residents, workers, students and visitors. The event will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 in the Council Chambers
of Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St.
Presenting panelists are Senator Scott Dibble, who has served in the Minnesota State Senate for the past 22 years and is a state-wide leader and advocate on LGBTQ+ issues, and Ellen
(Ellie) Krug, author of Getting to Ellen, and nationally known speaker on issues of inclusiveness and transgender issues emphasizing acceptance of the humanity in all of us.
“Scott has been a leading advocate for LGBTQ+ rights since joining the Legislature 20 years ago, and his years in the legislature have given him a unique perspective on statewide efforts
to eliminate bias towards the LGBTQ+ community,” said Commissioner Jim Nelson. “Ellie brings her own experience as a trans woman and is a nationally known speaker advocating for the
recognition of the humanity in all people.”
In this community conversation, participants will learn the historical context of efforts to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community on a statewide basis and discuss how Edina can
be a more inclusive and welcoming place for all without regard to their gender identity and sexual preference.
People are welcome to attend in person or watch live or later on Edina TV, YouTube or EdinaMN.gov/LiveMeetings. Comcast subscribers can watch it live and in rebroadcasts on Edina TV,
Channels 813 and 16, 7 p.m. Mondays, 3 and 11 a.m. Tuesdays, 9 p.m. Thursdays and 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fridays through Nov. 19.
