City opens Fox Meadow Park
Edina, Minn., Aug. 15, 2003 –The City of Edina held a grand opening ceremony at the newly-
built Fox Meadow Park Aug. 12.
The park, made possible in part by large financial contributions from neighbors, is located at
the corner of Blake Road and Fox Meadow Lane in Edina. Edina City Council awarded a
bid from Arrigoni Brothers Company for $139,634.00 to develop the park. There
were 32 donors who contributed a total of $58,650.00 towards the development. Of
the 32 donors, 27 approved of receiving lasting recognition for their contributions.
Mayor Dennis Maetzold, along with the Edina Park and Recreation Department,
unveiled a bronze plaque at the ceremony that will be permanently displayed at the
park to recognize those who contributed.
Laura Nisi, who spearheaded the movement to build the park, donated both her time
and money to the cause. She worked closely with Park and Recreation Director
John Keprios and neighbors. Nisi’s husband Kurt explained the need for a park in
the neighborhood.
“The kids never really had a place they could go and meet each other,” he said. “For
cohesion of the neighborhood, it’s been really great.”
The park, which had been a vacant lot for more than 25 years, includes walking
trails, a 16-foot gazebo structure, a sand play ground with play equipment, park
benches and a significant amount of new landscaping.
