Edina street to be renamed for golf star
Edina, Minn., Sept. 3, 2003 – A section of Braemar Boulevard will be renamed this fall in honor of a
former Edina resident who recently won the U.S. Women’s Open Golf Tournament.
The Edina City Council recently acted to rename the section of Braemar Boulevard between Gleason
Road and Valley View Road ”Hilary Lane” for Hilary (Homeyer) Lunke.
Lunke was born in Edina in 1979 and currently resides with her husband in Palo Alto, Calif.. She began
golfing at the age of 13 and often played at Braemar Golf Course during her Edina High School career.
While attending Stanford University, Lunke was a four-time All-American and won two collegiate titles.
She was a member of the 2000 U.S. Curtis Cup and World Amateur Teams, and in 2001 was the
South Atlantic Amateur Champion. Lunke birdied the 18th hole of an 18-hole, three-way playoff at the
2003 U.S. Women’s Open to defeat Angela Stanford and Kelly Robbins.
Contact the mayor to add a quote here about how proud the City is of Hilary. You can work in some of
the “precedence” stuff in the attribution, too.”
The City plans to officially dedicate the street later this year when Lunke returns to the area. For more
information, contact Edina City Hall, 952-927-8861.
