Edina street to be renamed for golf star
Edina, Minn., Sept. 3, 2003 – The Edina City Council approved the renaming of a
section of Braemar Boulevard in honor of Hilary Homeyer Lunke at the Sept. 2 City
Council meeting. The section between Gleason Road and Valley View Road will be
named Hilary Lane in honor of the former Edina resident, who recently won the
Women’s U.S. Open Golf Tournament.
Lunke was born in Edina in 1979 and currently resides in Palo Alto, California. She
began golfing at the age of 13 and often played Braemar Golf Course throughout her
Edina High School career. While attending Stanford, Lunke was a four-time All-
American and won two collegiate titles. She was a member of the 2000 U.S. Curtis
Cup and World Amateur Teams, and in 2001 was the South Atlantic Amateur
Champion.
There is a precedence for naming streets, parks and facilities in Edina after those
who have either made significant public service contributions to the City or have
earned exceptional achievements in their chosen sport in a manner that has brought
great pride to the community.
