Although this isn’t a parking rule, Public Works also reminds residents to do what they can to keep garbage and recycling containers off the street on collection days if it snows. “Edina Public Works thanks residents in advance for keeping parking rules and related guidelines top of mind this winter season. When we don’t have to work around obstacles like parked cars and garbage cans, it allows us to provide better service to you and your neighborhoods,” said Assistant Public Works Director Dave Goergen. The Edina Police Department may cite violators of the winter parking rules or, if necessary, tow their vehicles. If a vehicle is obstructing the path of a snowplow and needs to be moved, Police will make every effort to reach the vehicle owner. However, if the owner cannot be contacted, the vehicle will be towed. Illegally parked vehicles not only slow down plowing operations, but they can create hazardous situations for drivers. In a snowstorm, plow drivers may not see a parked car and hit it by accident. Parked cars can also get blocked or buried by banks of plowed snow making them difficult for other drivers to see.
