Then, the Reserves attend the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Reserve School one night a week for seven weeks where they are trained on the use of force, radio communications, report writing, crime scene preservation and CPR/First Aid. Koenig, Baron and Savik completed that work in November. They were recognized at a Nov. 11 ceremony at the North Metro Regional Public Safety Facility in Maple Grove. Now the trio fully serves as volunteer members of the Edina Police Department and performs duties such as traffic control, weekend patrols and special event logistics. The Police Department has 15 Reserve Officers. “Reserves are called in on very short notice to assist the Police Department and are able to respond to scenes to relieve patrol officers from large incidents so the officers can get back to duty and respond to calls,” said Young.
