During "Community Comment," the Board/Commission will invite residents to share
issues or concerns that are not scheduled for a future public hearing. Items that are on
tonight's agenda may not be addressed during Community Comment. Individuals must
limit their comments to three minutes. The Chair may limit the number of speakers on
the same issue in the interest of time and topic. Individuals should not expect the Chair or
Board/Commission Members to respond to their comments tonight. Instead, the
Board/Commission might refer the matter to staff for consideration at a future meeting.

I. Call to Order
Chair Westlund called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Answering roll call were Commissioners Byrd, Curtin, Faeth, Fram, Steinberg, Scully, Zbaren, and Chair
Westlund.
Staff Present: Recreation Supervisor Laura Fulton
III. Approval of Meeting Agenda
Motion made by Steinberg to approve the October 24, 2024, meeting agenda as submitted,
seconded by Curtin. Motion carried.
IV. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Motion made by Fram to approve the September 19, 2024, meeting minutes as submitted,
seconded by Scully. Motion carried.
V. Reports/Recommendations
A. 2024 Workplan Updates
● Initiative 1.1.1: Art Center
i. Fulton reported that the Southdale library will be holding a community information
session on December 7th. She noted that more information will come soon.
● Initiative 1.1.2: Edina Art Grant Program
i. Faeth reported that there will be a tea ceremony in November. She noted that she will
follow up for a report.
ii. Curtin discussed starting to think about next year’s program.
● Initiative 1.1.3: Review Public Art Opportunities for New City Facilities and Locations

i. Faeth reported that there was a meeting with City staff regarding the fire station art.
She noted that they will be focusing on creating a mural on the metal paneled wall in front of the
parking lot. She shared the completion date is targeted at the fall of 2025.
ii. Vetter reported that they have completed 30% of the design of the Fred Richards Park
plan. He noted they would like to add public art in the park.
● Initiative 1.1.4: Commission Participation in Community Events
i. Nothing to report
VI. Chair and Member Comments
● Chair Westlund reported that on October 3rd, she and all other Commission Chairs presented their
2025 Workplans to City Council. She noted that City Council was very supportive in their 2025
Workplan.
● Vetter reported that the Parks and Rec Commission is looking into diving into new things in 2025 if
their initiative is approved. He believes they will be sending the Commission an email to see if there
is interest in some type of collaboration.
VII. Staff Comments
● Liaison Fulton reported that the Art Lab will be taking place on November 2. She noted that they
have a new artist developing the projects.
● Liaison Fulton reviewed the meeting dates for the remainder of the year.

Holiday Workshops at the Edina Art Center
Printmaking: Holiday Cards
Saturday, November 23, 10am – 1pm, $55
Make your own holiday cards! Design and create your own relief print using soft-cut blocks.
Learn to carve your image, apply ink and print either work of art to decorate your home, or
greeting cards to share with friends and loved ones. This class is great for adults and teens,
as well as children 8+ accompanied by an adult.
Alcohol Ink Coasters
Tuesday, December 3, noon – 1:30pm, $49
Learn to create stunning, one-of-a kind alcohol ink coasters. Alcohol inks are pigment-intense
and vibrant, free-flowing and filled with an energy all their own. Leave the workshop with
knowledge of a new technique that you can take home and expand your artist interest.
Choose between these three themes; create a set of 4 coasters. Makes a great gift!
Cardinals on Canvas: A painting night
Thursday, December 5, 5:30-7:30 pm, $29
For kids ages 7+ with their adult friend or family member. With step-by-step guidance, you'll
create your own masterpiece that captures a colorful winter scene. It's not just about painting;
it's about making memories together and discovering hidden artistic talents!
Metal Casting: Holiday Ornaments
Saturday, December 7, 1 – 4 pm, $55
Experience the art and science of metal casting in this fun winter workshop! The WOW
Mobile Metal Lab is back to teach you the whole process, from design to molding, casting and
finishing your work. This is a great introduction to this 7,000-year-old practice, today used
in all kinds of manufacturing and fine art. This class is great for adults and teens, as well as
children 8+ accompanied by an adult.
Holiday Barn Quilt Painting
Tuesdays, December 10 & 17, 6 – 8pm, $49
Discover the fun of barn quilt painting in this two-session class! You'll be guided through the
process of creating your own barn quilt art on wood, from selecting a pattern to the final brush
stroke. Lots of designs to choose from or the option to bring your favorite quilt block. Bring is

Cupcakes & Canvas: Gingerbread House
Saturday, December 14, noon – 1:30, $30
Join us for a fun family paint event! Everyone will create their own fun gingerbread scene
using acrylic paints on and 11x14 stretched canvas. Enjoy a cupcake dessert while we wait
for our paintings to dry.
Paper Marbling: Make Wrapping Paper!
Saturday, December 14, noon – 1:30, $55
Make your own wrapping paper! Learn to marble paper in the traditional way, by floating
water-based paints onto a liquid surface and lifting these images. Participants will have the
opportunity to make decorative papers for wrapping paper, book covers, bookmarks, cards
and other crafts.

Art: Try it Out! for Preschoolers
Each Friday morning, 10:30 – 11:30, $16
Preschoolers use a variety of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture
and collage to create unique projects. This class focuses on helping young children develop
visual knowledge and vocabulary, as well as fine motor skills and focus. It's also a fun way for
kids to spend time with the important adults in their lives!
First Saturday Art Lab: Welcome Winter!
Saturday, December 7, 10 – noon, free
Join us for arty fun on Saturday mornings! Staff will be on hand to assist families with a
variety of projects designed to help young people explore art concepts and mediums. This is
a drop-in program but registration helps us plan.
Curated Conversations
Wednesday, December 18, 1 – 2:30pm, free
Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, join us in exploring works of art in the Minneapolis
Institute of Art’s (Mia) collection and beyond. Discussion encouraged! December’s special
guest is Caroline Riebling, Edina Arts & Culture commissioner, with the topic Folk Art with a
Focus: Grandma Moses. Held at the Arneson Acres Park terrace room.
