FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Applications Open for Climate Action Fund
Edina, Minn., Jan. 6, 2025 – The City of Edina is accepting applications from residents, multifamily properties and business owners for reimbursements and cost-shares that benefit the
community and help the City meet its Climate Action Plan goals.
“The Climate Action Fund is a great way for the community to partner with the City to meet our Climate Action Plan goals,” said Sustainability Specialist Matthew Gabb. “Last year, the
Fund helped launch $1 million in private investment in energy efficiency and emissions reductions and we are excited to work with businesses and residents again in 2025.”
Homeowners of one- to four-unit residential properties can submit applications to the Climate Action Fund for the following projects: insulation, heat pumps, water heaters, solar systems,
induction stoves and e-bikes; as of 2025, applications can also be submitted for outdoor electric equipment such as snow blowers or lawn mowers, heat pump dryers and battery storage
for solar systems.
For home efficiency projects, the City requires an in-person personalized energy assessment within the last 36 months from the Home Energy Squad through the Center for Energy and Environment.
However, if a homeowner is only seeking to acquire an induction stove, heat pump dryer or outdoor electric equipment, an energy assessment is not required.
After completion of the energy assessment (if needed), homeowners can view the eligibility requirements and start the online application process via the Climate Action Fund webpage,
EdinaMN.gov/ClimateFund.
For residents who want to install solar systems, homes evaluated as sufficiently insulated or homes previously evaluated as insufficiently insulated but upgraded to meet sufficiency
standards may have up to 10% of costs covered by the City for system installations. The City will only cover up to 5% of the installation cost for homes not fitted with sufficient insulation.
The system for e-bike reimbursements has changed due to the high demand in 2024. E-bike reimbursements of at least $500 will be offered in a quarterly lottery. Applications will be accepted
on a rolling basis, and 10 applicants will be randomly selected on the first business day of the second month of each quarter. The first selection is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3.
Businesses and owners of multi-family housing complexes of five or more units are also eligible for utility rebate matches and cost share for energy efficiency and solar installation
projects. Information on eligibility can be found on the Climate Action Fund webpage.
