The workshops will provide information and tools for residents interested in sustainable practices in their landscaping. “We’ve been doing these workshops for over a decade,” explained Water Resources Manager Jessica Wilson. “Hosting these workshops helps reinforce the City's Clean Water Strategy and move toward Climate Action Plan goals.” The “Planting for Clean Water Workshop” on May 7 will cover the movement of water on residential properties and how residents can help improve water quality through their landscaping. On May 28, the “Planting for Pollinators Workshop” will focus on plant selection and upkeep for native plant gardens, helping to attract and sustain local pollinators. Both virtual workshops will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with time allotted to meet individually or in small groups with designers from Metro Blooms Design + Build. “Factoring in all that is required for maintaining a turf lawn, it can be expensive, labor intensive, wasteful of precious groundwater and it contributes to water and air pollution,” said Wilson. “Naturalized yards are beautiful and better for air, water and wildlife— including birds and butterflies.” Interested in attending one of these workshops? Sign up for the Planting for Clean Water Workshop and Planting for Pollinators Workshop online. Spots are limited to 30 attendees per session.
