Two New Officers Join the Edina Police Department
Edina, Minn., April 24, 2025 – Two new Edina Police Officers took the Law Enforcement Oath of Honor during a ceremony at City Hall Tuesday, April 22.
Caleb Stensrud and Matt Lounsbury were officially sworn in as the department’s two newest officers. Each has an honorable history of service to their communities, state and nation and
bring a wide variety of skills and experiences to the police force.
Stensrud grew up in Lakeville. After graduating high school, he went on to study at the University of North Dakota, graduating with two bachelor’s degrees — one in criminal justice and
another in sociology. Stensrud previously worked as a Community Service Officer for the Lakeville Police Department. In the Spring of 2021, he graduated from the Law Enforcement Skills
program at Alexandria Technical Community College the Law Enforcement Skills program. Stensrud went on to join the Minnesota Army National Guard, eventually deploying in February 2024,
where he spent time in Kuwait and Jordan. Stensrud began working for the Edina Police Department in February 2025.
Lounsbury grew up in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He moved to Chicago for his undergrad in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute. After earning his undergrad, he went to Moody Theological
Seminary to earn his master’s degree in Biblical Studies. Lounsbury then began his law enforcement education at Alexandria Technical Community College and graduated in 2020. In 2021,
he began working for the Owatonna Police Department. Lounsbury started with the Edina Police Department in December 2024.
“As police officers, we are entrusted with a great responsibility – to protect, to serve and to uphold the law with fairness, integrity and respect. It is a role that requires courage,
empathy and unwavering dedication,” said Chief Todd Milburn. “We are here to make a difference. And as I often say – we often get those opportunities to make a difference in a person's
life to make it better, particularly in those times of need. It is this type of work that gives us our purpose and sense of accomplishment.”
