The Juneteenth Community Celebration runs 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Maetzold Amphitheater at Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S. This family-friendly event will be held in conjunction with the Centennial Lakes Farmers Market. It is free to attend and parking is free. Children’s author Kayla Gant of KP Komix will sign a book she wrote and illustrated, Ebony’s Friendship Adventure. Gant said, “It’s a heartwarming kid’s story of friendship and creativity.” Free copies will be given away to children in attendance, courtesy of the Anti-Racism Collective of Edina. Two musical acts will perform this year. Duniya Drum & Dance, a Minnesota-based west African drumming and dance company, will open the evening’s entertainment. Chantel Sings, an accomplished R&B singer, songwriter, radio personality will emcee the event and perform as the closing act. The event also includes 24 resource and information tables and art activities for children. The Three Rivers Park District will offer fishing lessons and giveaways. This event is being hosted by Edina community members, the Anti-Racism Collective of Edina, the Joint Community Police Partnership and the City of Edina, and is sponsored by Explore Edina.
