The Edina Community Foundation, in partnership with the City of Edina, is organizing the three events Friday, July 4. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Eden Avenue behind City Hall and travels east on Eden, goes east on West 50th Street and ends at Halifax Avenue near Lunds & Byerlys. The hour-long parade features veterans, marching bands, floats, horses, musicians, character groups and more. To accommodate the parade, roads in the parade area will be closed to normal traffic. 7:30 a.m.: Normandale Road at South View Lane closes. 8:15 a.m.: Eden Avenue closes between Willson Road and 50th. Eastbound 50th closes at Grange Road. Southbound Willson from Eden closes. 9 a.m.: 50th Street from City Hall to Halifax Avenue closes. All roads should reopen by 1 p.m. Parade spectators will not be able to park at City Hall. Instead, parking is available in residential neighborhoods and near City Hall in areas not posted as no parking. With an estimated 20,000 spectators in attendance, there are plenty of spectator spaces along Eden Avenue and West 50th Street. Parade viewers are allowed to set up chairs or blankets in advance of the parade but are asked to avoid blocking sidewalks in any way. Weather permitting, those who can’t make it to the parade can still enjoy the festivities by watching the broadcast live on Edina TV (Comcast/Xfinity channels 813). It will also be rebroadcast on Edina TV at 7 p.m. Mondays, 3 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesdays, 9 p.m. Thursdays, and 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fridays through July 31. The parade video will be posted after the event to the Edina TV YouTube channel. Continuing a tradition started in 1970, the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band will play a special Independence Day concert starting at 8:30 p.m. at Rosland Park, 4300 W. 66th St. Two food trucks will be on hand at the park starting at 7 p.m. Following the concert, the fireworks show will take place at dusk.
