Edina seeks Artists for Utility Box Art Competition
Edina, Minn., June 6, 2025 – The Edina Arts & Culture Commission seeks designs for four utility box art wraps.
Applicants may submit up to three two-dimensional works in digital format for consideration. A stipend of $500 will be presented to the artists with winning entries. The utility boxes
will be wrapped in late summer or early fall.
"Utility box art wraps transform the everyday into the extraordinary—inviting all artists to bring color, creativity and community pride to Edina and makes our community more vibrant,”
said Recreation Supervisor Laura Fulton, who oversees this program.
Artists and non-artists working in any medium who are residents of Minnesota may apply. Preference will be given to Edina residents. Applicants do not need to have previous experience
in public art or creative placemaking, and there is no age restriction. If a minor’s artwork is selected, parents or guardians will need to sign a waiver.
A maximum of three design concepts per applicant is allowed and they must fall under four theme categories: Edina-Related Art, Organics and Recycling, Sustainable Living, and Student
Art. Any form of artwork is acceptable, including, but not limited to, paintings, photography, collages, mosaics, quilting and poetry.
"We invite artists from every corner of Minnesota to showcase their creativity. This is your chance to turn a city street into a canvas,” said Fulton. “Whether you're emerging or established,
all are welcome to submit designs for our Utility Box Art Competition."
The utility boxes that will be wrapped are located at West 50th Street and Halifax Avenue, West 70th Street and West Shore Drive, West 77th Street and the Pentagon Park parking lot,
West 76th Street and Centennial Lakes Park entrance.
When applying, an artist should include their name, contact information, title of artwork, an image of the artwork, and a short statement. Once an artist is selected, Fulton will work
with them to refine the art dimensions to wrap the entire utility box.
