Longtime Public Safety Employee Retires
Edina, Minn., DATE – After 14 years with the City of Edina, Julie Norgren retired May 1. She was the only City employee to retire in the second quarter of the year.
Norgren began her career at the City as a part-time dispatcher from 2009 to 2011. She then transitioned into a full-time dispatcher role until 2013, when she began working as a Property
& Evidence Specialist. In 2019, she stepped into her final role as the Administrative Support Specialist for the Police Department. Norgren also served as a volunteer Lieutenant for
the Edina Police Reserves from 2006 to 2012, only leaving after finding full-time work with the City.
As an Administrative Support Specialist, Norgren provided valuable support to the Police Department by coordinating employee schedules, processing gun permits, invoicing staff overtime
and more.
“Because of the variety of positions she’s held and her extensive historical knowledge, a lot of the staff called her the Police Department’s ‘in-house Historian,’” said Police Chief
Todd Milburn. “She was really the go-to person for all of PD.”
In her retirement, Norgren plans to spend more time with her three grandchildren. Her husband is working on a “she-shed” on their lakefront property, which Norgren hopes to put to good
use making projects such as stained glass and needlework.
“Julie is a great human being. She really cares about her work, coworkers and her family,” said Milburn. “She’s a hard worker with strong core values. I wish Julie the best in her retirement.
She deserves it!”
