During the month of August, the City’s public safety departments compete against other agencies in the Twin Cities metro area to see which can collect the most amount of blood at local blood drives. Edina’s blood drive will take place 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St., inside the Council Chambers. Organized by Memorial Blood Centers, Battle of the Badges aims to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation through a friendly life-saving competition between teams of first responders and their community residents. The city with the highest participation and the most life-saving units wins. “The Edina police and fire departments are teaming up in the annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive,” said Community Engagement Officer Nick Donahue. “This is a friendly competition with other agencies in the metro area to see who can raise the most donations. Please consider donating blood at Edina City Hall to prove what we already know; Edina PD and FD are truly the best!” With significantly lower than expected blood donations across Minnesota this past spring, all blood types are needed, especially O negative (O-) and O positive (O+). Additionally, double red cell donations can be made at the blood drive for individuals with types O+, O-, A negative or B negative. To schedule a donation, visit mbc.org/searchdrives and enter sponsor code 0111, call Memorial Blood Centers at 888.GIVE.BLD or scan the QR code. -30-
