City to Improve Accessibility of Grandview Pedestrian Bridge
Edina, Minn., Sept. 11, 2025 – The City of Edina is moving forward with plans to make the Grandview pedestrian bridge more accessible.
The bridge, constructed in 2024, connects Arcadia Avenue on the east with the Grandview Parking Ramp on the west. While the bridge was reviewed by outside experts prior to construction,
a recent U.S. Department of Justice review determined the project does not fully meet federal accessibility standards. The bridge is accessible from the second floor of the parking
ramp, but the second floor of the parking ramp is not accessible from the west side unless you drive up to it. The review also found additional accessible parking spaces are needed.
The City will work with the Department of Justice to develop a remediation plan that ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Plans will include creating an accessible
connection to the bridge from the lower-level parking lot and increasing the number of designated accessible parking spaces. The City must submit the remediation plan within six months.
“The Grandview pedestrian bridge was intended to create a safe and convenient route for pedestrians to cross the railroad tracks. It was built to better connect the Grandview District,
bringing people together,” said City Manager Scott Neal. “We are committed to ensuring that vision is fully realized by improving access for everyone.”
