Police Detective Nicole Frederick Recognized for 2023 Armed Robbery Case
Edina, Minn., Sept. 17, 2025 – Edina Police Detective Nicole Frederick was recognized by the United States Postal Inspection Service Tuesday, Sept. 9, for her work on an armed robbery
case from November 2023.
On Nov. 18, 2023, Edina officers received a report of an armed robbery of a mail carrier who said the suspect displayed a handgun and stole mail keys in the robbery. The victim and witnesses
provided descriptions of multiple suspects and the suspects’ vehicle. Frederick started a multi-jurisdictional investigation after learning that the same suspects robbed a mail carrier
in Brooklyn Center. By means of electronic surveillance and paper service, Frederick identified the suspects involved in both robberies.
They were arrested and a handgun was recovered. One suspect was charged federally with robbery of the mail carrier, and the other was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The
pair worked to steal “arrow keys,” which are master keys that can open any mailbox or collection box within a specific zip code, then mail used it to commit identity fraud.
“This case showcases Detective Frederick’s expertise, outstanding investigative work and strong collaboration with our federal partners, leading to an excellent outcome,” said Lt. Ryan
Schultz, who oversees the Edina Police Department’s Investigations Division.
This week, representatives from the United States Postal Inspection Service visited the Police Department to present an award to Frederick in recognition of her work solving these cases.
Representatives included Inspector Matt Hoffman, Assistant Inspector in Charge Steve Hodges, Inspector Justin Patterson and Team Leader John Livingston.
