Jason Rother and Nick Phipps recently joined the Edina Fire team. Rother joined Edina Fire in April. He attended paramedic school at Minnesota North College, Mesabi Range. Previously, he served in U.S. Marine Corps as an Aircraft Firefighter. Following his time in the Marines, he worked as a Paramedic for Mayo Clinic from 2016 to 2022, and then worked as an Aircraft Paramedic for Guardian Flight from 2022 to 2025. Phipps started with Edina Fire as the department’s first Fire Cadet in June. Originally from California, Phipps worked in finance before taking an interest in becoming a Paramedic/Firefighter. He completed his Paramedic schooling at the University of California – Los Angeles and fire academy at Moreno Valley College. He also gained experience as a Paramedic Intern for the Los Angeles Fire Department. More recently, he worked at Allina Health as a Paramedic. Phipps was promoted to Paramedic/Firefighter Sept. 6. “We are excited for Jason and Nick to receive their official badges,” said Training & EMS Assistant Fire Chief Shaun White. “They have both been busy becoming familiar with our operations as they progressed through their Academy and the first phases of their learning process on the streets. They have already demonstrated that their varied experience and personal history are valuable additions to our crews.” Following the swearing-in ceremony, Rother was assigned to the B Shift and Phipps to the A Shift.
