Initiative 1.1.1 Art Center Colocation at Southdale Library The Arts and Culture Commission will continue to bring forward community perspective for the new Art Center, collocated at the Hennepin County Southdale Library. Hennepin County is nearing the end of the construction documentation phase of planning for colocation of the Southdale Library and Edina Art Center. Sta has updated the commission on the progress being made. The art center space in the Southdale location has been designed to accommodate many dierent art mediums, including a large ceramics space. On-going / Annual Zbaren, Curtin, Scully, Westlund Initiative 1.1.2 Edina Art Grant Program Arts and Culture Commission members will review, refine and host a second year of the Edina Art Grant Program. 13 applications received The Edina Art Grant Initiative Team recommended six grant applicants with strong goals, clear planning and execution plans, as well as a focus on diverse artistic experiences for a range of ages in our community and broad exposure. Art Grants were disbursed to six grant recipients and programs are ongoing. On-going / Annual Curtin, Fram, Byrd, Pandya Initiative 1.1.3 Review Public Art Opportunities for New City Facilities and Locations The Arts and Culture Commission will review public art elements and make recommendations to public projects, such as Fire Station #2, Fred Richards Park, Braemar Arena and others. Public Artwork will be commissioned for the new Edina Fire Station. ACC members commented on selection. Four to five new sculptures will be displayed through an "Art on Loan" program along the Edina Promenade. A call for art went out in April and Commission members received a report and commented on the submissions at their meeting in May. A call for submissions for Utility Box Wrap Art is currently underway. Commission members will select artwork in July. The Edina Arts and Culture Commission will march in the 4th of July Parade. The Edina Arts and Culture Commission will have a booth at the Fall into the Arts Festival in September. Event Scully, Stemmler, Steinberg, Pandya Initiative 1.1.5 Utility Box Art Wrap Program Add Art Wraps to City owned Utility Boxes. The call for submissions went out on June 1 and will close on June 30. Initiative members will work to select artwork during the first half of July. Project Fram, Zbaren, Westlund Initiative 1.1.6 City Code Update—Article III. Boards, Committees and Commissions, Division 8. Arts and Culture Commission In preparation for the comprehensive plan update, Administration will propose updates to city code. No updates at this time. Information/Background: Summer session II began this week. Abstract classes, drawing classes and painting and drawing portraits studio are in full swing for the next six weeks. There are still spaces available in the following camps: Teen Art Intensive: Board Game Design Monday – Thursday, August 4-7, 1:00 – 4:00 Ages 12 – 17 Fun, hands on camp where art and gameplay come together! You’ll learn the fundamentals of board game design with a focus on developing your artistic skills. Create your own unique board game that’s both fun and visually appealing. Teen Art Intensive: Metal Working with the WOW Mobile Metal Lab Monday – Thursday, August 11 -14, 10:00 – 3:00 Ages 12 – 17 The WOW team takes each artist through the entire process of casting metal – from safety gear to surface treatments.
