Fall into the Arts Schedule

Centennial Lakes Park staff will be around to assist too, but try to find me first.
Please wear your ACC shirt that you received for the parade. We will have extras if needed.
Setup: Tent & table will be out for you in the morning. Easels, tablecloth, posters, stickers, extra tshirts,
nametags, scavenger hunt cards, etc. will be in a bin in the Hughes Pavilion back room labeled and ready
for you to grab and put out.
Tear down: Please put the Easels, tablecloth, posters, remaining scavenger hunt cards, etc away in the bin
provided. Everything should be put in the back room at the Hughes Pavilion. Tear down will happen both
Saturday and Sunday evenings. On Sunday, I will have staff tear down the tent and put the table away.

The City of Edina is updating all sections of Chapter 2 – Administration, Article III – Boards,
Committees and Commissions to improve consistency, clarity, and alignment with current practices.
Each commission’s section is being reviewed to ensure it accurately reflects its purpose, duties, and
advisory role.

The revised purpose better reflects your role as a thought partner and promoter of arts and culture
in Edina. It emphasizes your advisory capacity and the importance of culture to community wellbeing.
2. Streamlined Duties
The original list had eleven duties, many of which were repetitive, or implementation focused. The
revised version condenses them into five clear responsibilities that focus on:
•Advising the City Council
•Promoting awareness and participation
•Supporting collaboration and community partnerships
•Recommending strategies aligned with community needs
•Encouraging outside investment in the arts
This updated list keeps your role focused on leadership, advocacy, and promotion.

Sec. 2-278. Establishment and Purpose.
The City Council establishes the Arts and Culture Commission to promote and support the role of arts and culture
in enhancing the quality of life, strengthening community identity, and celebrating the diverse traditions, values,
and creativity of Edina’s residents. The commission serves as an advocate for cultural expression and inclusion
across the city.
Sec. 2-279. Duties.
The commission shall:
1)Advise the City Council on matters related to arts, culture, and heritage, including public art, policy, and
community priorities.
2)Promote awareness, appreciation, and participation in arts and cultural activities through events,
storytelling, performances, exhibitions, and programs.
3)Support collaboration among artists, cultural organizations, businesses, schools, and community groups to
strengthen the city’s cultural life.
4)Recommend initiatives and strategies that reflect Edina’s cultural diversity and expand access to arts and
cultural experiences.
5)Encourage public and private investment in arts and culture by identifying funding opportunities,
partnerships, and creative resources.

Sec. 2-278. Establishment.
The council, finding that the encouragement and enhancement of the arts in the city is vital to the social and
cultural well-being of the city and its residents, does hereby establish the arts and culture commission (the
"commission").

Sec. 2-279. Duties.
The commission shall:
(1)Strive to build a vibrant community through support of art and culture in the city.
(2)Encourage leadership and advocacy in advancing the role and value of art and culture activities in the
city, including but not limited to music, dance, theater, decorative arts, painting, culinary arts,
ceramics, sculpture, literature, media arts and public art.
(3)Facilitate communication and collaboration that promotes participation and enhances the cultural life
of the residents of the city.
(4)Strengthen partnerships with artistic and cultural organizations based on mutual respect and equal
responsibility for advancing the cultural climate in the city.
(5)Recommend artistic and cultural initiatives, including a long term plan directed towards fulfilling the
needs and desires of city residents with respect to art and culture. Promote artistic and cultural
initiatives and make recommendations to the city council and other boards and commissions.
(6)Identify existing and potential new venues for artistic and cultural events throughout the city.
(7)Recommend and facilitate programs at venues throughout the city that are responsive to community
desires.
(8)Identify potential sources of funding for artistic and cultural initiatives, including grants, donations, and
sponsorships.
(9)Represent the city at community functions throughout the city.
(10)Continue to develop and implement public visual arts programs in the city.
(11)Report to the council periodically on the foregoing, and perform other duties as may be directed by
council from time to time.

The commission shall establish and appoint members to a public art committee which shall be charged with
implementing a public arts program in the city. The commission shall by majority vote approve the chair of the
public art committee. The commission may establish other committees and working groups for the purpose of
