Call to Order 7:05pm and Chair calls the meeting to order. 2. Roll Call Present: New Student Commissioners Doscotch and Kumar, as well as Commissioners Stone, Rogers, Dawkins, Nelson, and Chair Khalifa. Absent: Commissioners Park, Ismail, and Stringer Moore. 3. Approval of Meeting Agenda Motion from Commissioner Rogers. Seconded by Commissioner Nelson. Motion carries. 4. Approval of Meeting Minutes 4.1. Minutes: HRRC August 27, 2024 Meeting Minutes Motion by Commissioner Nelson. Seconded by Commissioner Stone. Motion carries. 5. Community Comment Chair welcomed new student commissioners and asked for a brief introduction from them. 6. Reports/Recommendations 6.1. 2024 Work Plan Updates Initiative 1.5.1 Sharing Values, Sharing Communities event planning update (Nelson, Ismail, Park) • Changed committee member Khalifa to Ismail for accuracy. • Reiterated the speakers scheduled for this event. • Date pushed to October 22nd, 7-8:30pm and location will be at City Hall. • Event will focus on how the community can be more welcoming. Initiative 1.5.5 Tom Oye Award • Commission discussed assigning poster locations with commission members. o List of former poster locations will be disbursed. • Social media postings discussion. • Evaluation and selection discussion. 6.2. 2025 Work Plan Development Staff introduced shift in focus from historical task force work to the Equity Strategic Action Plan. • Discussion on putting a pause on acting as a commission and lean into more of a task force role to help with the Equity Strategic Action Plan as well as discover the role of the community in equity 7. Chair and Member Comments Commissioners welcomed new student commissioners and new staff liaison to HRRC. 8. Staff Comments Staff did not have any comment at this time. 9. Nelson, Ismail, Park Sep 30, 2024 The Sharing Values, Sharing Communities event is scheduled for October 22, 2024 at City Hall focused on supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Edina. City sta have been working to promote the event through established communication channels and commissioners are expected to spread the word to community and post fliers and postcards around the city. Event Initiative 1.5.2 Review bias and discrimination event response. Review and propose update as needed to the bias and discrimination event response in accordance with legislation and best practices. Respond to bias or discrimination events as plan prescribes. Rogers, Dawkins, Nelson Sep 30, 2024 The Bias Event Response Plan which includes steps for sta responses to bias incidents and bias motivated oenses has been updated and documented by sta and will continue to be evaluated and refined to ensure eicient and timely responses are provided to bias reports. Project Initiative 1.5.3 Build connections with community organizations and report on community awareness of bias and discrimination event reporting. Engage with organizations to exchange information, assess community awareness and educate on bias and discrimination event process. Q4 Create standardized presentations and materials for HRRC presentations to community organizations, including on bias and discrimination event response.
