Highway 100 On- and Off-Ramps at Vernon and West 50th to Reopen Nov. 15
Edina, Minn., Nov. 14, 2025 – The new bridge over Minnesota Highway 100 and its ramps will reopen to traffic Saturday, Nov. 15, restoring access for drivers entering and exiting Highway
100 at Vernon Avenue and West 50th Street.
The reopening completes the biggest portion of the Vernon Avenue & Highway 100 Interchange project, a joint effort between the City of Edina, Hennepin County and the Minnesota Department
of Transportation that began in April.
As part of this project, the old bridge and redundant on- and off ramps were removed. The new design features a standard tight diamond interchange to improve safety and traffic flow,
with bridge space that includes:
10-foot-wide sidewalks and ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps
Pedestrian refuge islands
New dual left-turn lanes in both east and west directions
New traffic signals with ADA-compliant audible crossings
In addition to the new bridge, nearby intersections in the Grandview District have or will be upgraded with wide sidewalks, accessible crossings and other safety improvements:
Arcadia Avenue
Addition of 10-foot-wide sidewalk and ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps
New streetlights
Interlachen Boulevard and Gus Young Lane
Addition of 10-foot-wide sidewalks and ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps
New left turn lanes
New traffic signal with ADA-compliant audible crossings
New ADA-compliant entrance into Edina Liquor
“We would like to thank all those impacted by this project. We understand it has made traveling in the district more difficult. While we would have liked to have opened the entire project
area right now, opening the Highway 100 bridge and associated ramps will ease traffic and create safer pedestrian facilities. We look forward to working with you next spring as we finish
the entire project,” said Engineering Director Chad Millner.
Work Continues on the Vernon Avenue Bridge over the CPKC Railroad
Construction on the second bridge on Vernon Avenue over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railroad will continue into 2026 as part of Stage 4 of construction. Work will continue
this year until weather allows, then pause for the winter and resume in the spring, with an
anticipated summer 2026 opening.
Local traffic in the Grandview area will continue to use Eden Avenue as the
east-west detour until the Vernon Avenue bridge over the railroad is complete.
The Stage 4 detour map is available at BetterTogetherEdina.org/vernon-hwy100.
Connection Between Interlachen Boulevard and Gus Young Lane Reopening Soon
Thru traffic between Interlachen and Gus Young Lane will reopen in early to mid-December. This connection will stay open during the winter while work on the Vernon Avenue bridge over
the CPKC railroad is paused.
