Discussion
The present fish population consists of black bullhead, bluegill,
green sunfish, and fathead minnows. This population structure is
typical of a winterkill.
Black bullheads were captured in numbers over 5 times the third
quartile level for lake class 37. The mean weight of fish sampled
was equal to the first quartile. The black bullhead mean length
was 6.0 inches.
Only four bluegills were sampled in the seven trapnet sets, even
though 400 were stocked in 1994 by the city of Edina. This is
well below the first quartile level for number per set. The mean
length of the bluegills was 4.3 inches. The largest individual
fish was 4.9 inches in length.
Green sunfish were sampled in numbers over 6 times the third
quartile range (interquartile range 0.2 to 12.4). The mean weight
of fish sampled was equal to the first quartile level of 0.2. The
mean length was 6.3 inches.
Largemouth bass were stocked at the same time as the bluegills by
the city of Edina. None of the 600 fish stocked were captured by
the trapnets or during seining.

Status Of The Fishery
Arrowhead Lake is a small, shallow winterkill lake. The 1995 lake
survey found black bullheads and green sunfish dominating the
population. Each species was sampled in numbers well above
average for similar lakes. The average size of fish, for both
species, was slightly below average. Only 4 bluegills were
sampled during the survey, even though 400 were stocked by the
city of Edina in 1994. None of the 600 Largemouth bass stocked by
the city were sampled.
