PROCLAMATION
GLOBAL ENCOUNTERS FESTIVAL AND FAANOOS DAY
MAY 9, 2025
WHEREAS, Global Encounters is an international gathering that brings together artists and athletes from over 25 countries to celebrate unity, cultural exchange and excellence in the
creative arts and athletic fields; and
WHEREAS, The 2025 edition of Global Encounters will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in July 2025, highlighting the spirit of international competition, creativity, and shared
achievement; and
WHEREAS, The Faanoos—a symbolic lantern representing light, inspiration and global connection—is traveling across multiple countries and cities in advance of the event; and
WHEREAS, The Faanoos will arrive in Edina, Minnesota, May 9, 2025, as part of its international journey, offering an opportunity to reflect on the values of inclusivity, unity, and cross-cultural
understanding; and
WHEREAS, Such events enrich the cultural life of the City of Edina and inspire a deeper appreciation of global perspectives and shared human aspirations.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James B. Hovland, Mayor of Edina, do hereby proclaim May 9, 2025, as
GLOBAL ENCOUNTERS FESTIVAL AND FAANOOS DAY
in the City of Edina and encourage our citizens to help recognize the Ismaili community in Minnesota and around the world as they gather for the Global Encounters Festival and celebrate
the values of international friendship, cultural celebration and excellence embodied by the event.
