I. Call To Order
The meeting commenced at 7:33 AM
II. Roll Call
Present: Co-Chair Hunt, Members Burke, Kitui, Koon, and Siekman; Staff Liaison Hawkinson;
Manager Neal, Staff Fisher and Teague
Absent: Co-Chair Hornig and Member Mehta
Guest: John Phelan, Center for the American Experiment
III. Approval Of Meeting Agenda
Accepted as presented.
IV. Approval Of Meeting Minutes
Siekman moved, seconded by Kitui to approve the minutes. Motion carried.
V. Discussion
John Phelan read an article he wrote that was in response to the Builders Association Twin Cities’
(BATC), aka Housing First Minnesota’s Affordable Housing Institute, report titled “Priced Out.” He
indicated that housing is costly because the demand exceeds the supply. Increasing supply is curtailed
due to government fees and regulations.
City Staff were on hand to provide information on Edina’s fees and regulations, which may not align
with the report’s premise. Manager Neal encouraged Task Force Members to read the BATC report
analytically.
