commissions
At a work session prior to its
regular meeting, the Council
began discussing its relation-
ship with advisory boards and
commissions.
Applicants for boards and
commissions will be inter-
viewed by the Council this
week and next. Appointments
will be made in February.
The Council decided to meet
with the chairs of the boards
and commissions early in the
year to share its goals and
vision for the year so the
groups can work more col-
laboratively.
The Council also agreed to
review the attendance policy
for boards and commissions.
In addition, the Council will
consider eliminating dual
memberships where a mem-
ber of one board or commis-
sion serves as a representa-
tive on a second board or
commission. Additional
changes to the City Code
might be considered to model
the board and commission
ordinance after that in Bloom-
ington.

According to State law, the
Council must appoint a Mayor
Pro Tem at the first meeting
of each year. The Mayor Pro
Tem fulfills the duties of the
Mayor in his absence. Former
Council Member Scot Housh
had served as Mayor Pro Tem
since 2005.
Since Swenson is the longest-
tenured member of the Coun-
cil, Mayor Jim Hovland sug-
gested she be named Mayor
Pro Tem.
