1. Call to Order
Chair Wright called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
2. Roll Call
Answering roll call: Commissioners Bildsten, Bruhschwein, Lewis, Lukens, Olson, Rosen, Wright
Late: Commissioner Vandelist
Absent: Commissioner Davidson, Bracken, Lassig
Staff present: Transportation Planner Andrew Scipioni, Traffic Safety Coordinator Nick Bauler
Commissioner Vandelist arrived at 6:09.
3. Approval of Meeting Agenda
Motion was made by Commissioner Lewis and seconded by Commissioner Bildsten to approve the
agenda. All voted aye. Motion carried.
4. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Motion was made by Commissioner Lewis and seconded by Commissioner Bruhschwein to approve the
April 16, 2026 meeting minutes. All voted aye. Motion carried.
5. Community Comment
Sylvie Hyman from St. Louis Park attended to learn about how the Transportation Commission operates.
Hyman is a transportation advocate interested in starting a similar commission in St. Louis Park.
Will Maddry testified about their experience commuting to Edina from Minneapolis via bike and transit. Madry
expressed disappointment that the France Ave pedestrian underpass project was discontinued and interest in
seeing improvements to the city’s transportation system.
Abby Malkerson, 6312 St. Johns Ave, testified about Item A2 on the Traffic Safety Report of April 28, 2026.
Malkerson is supportive of changing the yield signs to stop signs and noted that the neighborhood also
submitted a petition.
Linda Sherman, 5209 Wooddale Ave, testified about the Wooddale Ave bike lane project. Sherman expressed
concern that removing on-street parking on Wooddale Ave would create an unsafe situation as the side
streets are narrower and do not have sidewalks.
David Frenkel testified about ADA compliance related to the pedestrian bridges over Highway 100, the
Grandview Pedestrian Bridge and other projects. Frenkel suggested that the City focus on fixing existing

infrastructure rather than building new assets.
6. Special Presentations
6.1. 2025 Traffic Safety Summary Report
Traffic Safety Coordinator Nick Bauler presented the 2025 Traffic Safety Summary Report for review and
comment.
6.2. Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Progress Report
Liaison Scipioni presented a progress report on the implementation of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master
Plan.
7. Reports/Recommendations
7.1. Traffic Safety Report of April 28, 2026
The Commission reviewed and commented on the recommendations of the Traffic Safety Committee.
7.2. 2026/2027 Work Plan Updates
1. Safe and Equitable Mobility Action Plan Participation – Adopted by City Council on May 5.
2. Traffic Safety Standards – No update.
3. Innovative Traffic Calming Solutions – Commissioners spoke to City Councilmembers about a
potential project on France Avenue following the conclusion of the underpass project.
8. Staff Comments – Received.
8.1. Wooddale Ave Bike Lane Project Update
Liaison Scipioni provided an update on the Wooddale Ave bike lane project.
Motion was made by Commissioner Rosen and seconded by Commissioner Lewis to approve the
advisory communication as drafted. All voted aye. Motion carried.
8.2. Safe Routes to School Application Discussion
The Commission discussed assisting the City with a planning grant application through MnDOT's Safe
Routes to School program
8.3. 2026 Meeting Dates
The Commission’s next regular meeting is Thursday, June 18 at 6pm at Edina City Hall.
9. Chair and Member Comments – Received.
10. Adjournment
Motion was made by Commissioner Lewis and seconded by Commissioner Bildsten to adjourn the May
28, 2026 regular meeting at 9:08p.m. All voted aye. Motion carried.
