I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 12, 1985 MEETING
Jean Rydell moved to approve the minutes of the March 12,
1985 meeting. Jim Fee seconded the motion. Motion carried.
II. WOODDALE SCHOOL
Bob Kojetin reported that Wooddale School is expected to be
razed by August 1, 1985. The Edina Historical Society in
connection with the Edina Foundation is planning its
Edinamite Ball to be held at Wooddale School on July 13.
This would involve a kind of oldtime get together at the
school which would involve possibly selling of bricks,
having a dance and other activities.
The Edina Historical Society is now in the process of
looking at other alternative areas in the City for housing
the Edina Historical memorabilia. It has been suggested
that they look into possibly a cultural center, possibly to
be built somewhere in the community, maybe at Utley Park.
The Historical Society is looking forward to having some
location so that during its 100th year centennial in 1988
they will be located at some permanent location.
It has been suggested that the cost of razing the Wooddale
School would be approximately $75,000. It has also been
suggested that $25,000 be invested this year to start
construction in the park. This $25,000 plus an additional
$75,000 would be budgeted for the next four years from the
Capital Park Improvement Budget.

Bob Kojetin discussed the need for a meeting to be set up
with the Wooddale Park Committee - Marilyn Wooldridge and
Bob Christianson and the neighbors of Wooddale. The
tentative date set is Tuesday, April 30th at 7:00 p.m. at
City Hall. Bob Kojetin will notify the neighbors involved
with the committee of the meeting.
III. HENNEPIN COUNTY PARK RESERVE
Bob Kojetin distributed results of a study done for the
Hennepin County Park Reserve which identified current users
of their facilities and also identified various categories
of possible users. The report indicates that the main
target for marketing use of park facilities for the county
is the 30-44 year old, middle class, urban and suburban
residents who comprise approximtely a total of 223,800. Bob
Kojetin commented that Edina might see many similarities to
Hennepin County in regard to the potential group of users of
facilities and draw upon some of the ideas from the Henmpin
County report, particularly with regard to policies.
Bob Kojetin also gave copies of the tentative agenda for the
April 11th meeting of the Hennepin County Park Reserve
District to the Park Board, which involves new park policies
and ordinances.
IV. BRAEMAR ARENA/GYMNASTIC ASSOCIATION
Bob Kojetin reported that the gymnastics association has
organized a committee to investigate construction of new
facilities. He also stated that the hockey association has
talked about having some money that might be donated to the
city for improved ice facilities. Some hockey board members
have expressed the desire for more covered ice, and also the
need for upgrading of the arena and pavilion facilities.
Mr. Kojetin commented that possibly a combination of
projects could be done at Braemar where there is already
ample parking and staff, and people are accustomed to using
the facilities there. It might be possible to modify the
present facilities to incorporate an area for gymnastics and
the needed extra ice for the hockey association in a joint
project. Mr. Kojetin suggested the possibility of adding a
roof over a hockey rink with natural ice, an enclosed
balcony over present pavilion tying all three rinks
together, with a gymnastics area. The road and lower
parking lot by the facilities also need to be redesigned and
another factor to be considered is where the Wooddale School
remains will be dumped when it is taken down, maybe using it
as a fill for such a project would be valuable. Another
possibility for the gymnastics association is putting it at
Edinborough.
