MEMBERS PRESENT: Joan Lonsbury, Marilyn Wooldridge, Andy Montgomery, Bob Christianson, James Fee, Bill Lord, Jean Rydell, Virginia Shaw,Mack Thayer STAFF PRESENT: Bob Kojetin, Rick Jacobson The Park Board Members met at the City Hall at 5:30 and proceeded on a tour of the following areas: Van Valkenburg Park where the members got out of the bus to see a panoramic view of the park. Discussion was held on the lay out and construction of Van Valkenburg Park. The construction of the new maintenance building at Braemar Golf Course was next observed. There was also discussion about the area being proposed for the expansion of the new par 3. Also discussed was the proposed realignment of Braemar Blvd. and Valley View by hairpin turn, which has been suggested as a possible relocation of that corner. The tour then continued on to Bredesen Park where members stopped and walked underneath the bridge where the newly constructed work has just been completed under Gleason Road. Positive comments were made on the walkway and a suggestion was made to have railings on the edge of the walkway. The Park Board then proceeded to Lake Cornelia Park where they stopped by the handicap playground and looked at equipment. They discussed the location of the new playground equipment that is being donated by Dr. Eitel through the Edina Federated Women. The tour ended at Braemar Golf Course. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Joan Lonsbury. A discussion was held in regard to Wooddale School. Marilyn Wooldridge and Bob Christiansen discussed minutes that were handed out from the first meeting with the neighbors of Wooddale School. (copy enclosed). Date for the Braemar Inspection Tour was discussed. A suggestion of July 23 was given and there were a lot of conflicts, so a recommendation was made for Tuesday, August 20th and that date was accepted. It was also mentioned that in previous meetings it had been recommended to conduct the Inspection Tour in September, but it was suggested that in September of this year the Golf Course Clubhouse will be under construction so we should probably wait until 1986 to begin have the tour in September. 3 Don Wineberg recommended reviewing the plan of upgrading the balcony in the pavilion which was presented a few years ago, and adding on some additional features to incorporate the needs of the gymnastics association. It is Don's feeling that the more programming which could be done in the facility, the more saleable it will be. Bob Kojetin stated that the EGA knows that somewhere along the way they have to defray some of the costs of the facilities and they are planning for that. John Keprios indicated that the Hockey Association is wanting to do something right now so they can have another covered rink available for the next year to hold in-house tournaments. They have mentioned that they would like to have a covered rink at Lewis Park. Don Wineberg expressed the opinion that it would be better to convince the hockey association to unite efforts with the gymnastics association and try to come up with a quality facility, which might take an extra year, but would be worth the wait. Larry Thayer stated that he felt there needs to be work done on the aesthetics of the facilities and a need to have a heated spectator area in the pavilion. Bob Kojetin reported that some new lights are being installed in the pavilion on an experimental basis. The new lights are supposed to provide much more light and be more economical to operate. If they work out well they might also be installed in the Arena and pavilion. V. METROPOLITAN OPEN SPACE COMMITTEE Joan Lonsbury is applying to the Metropolitan Open Space Committee for appointment to the committee. Bob Kojetin circulated a resolution for Park Board members to sign which endorsed Joan for the position. VI.
