Braemar Arena Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Community Events
Edina, Minn., Nov. 20, 2015 – On Saturday, Dec. 5, Braemar Arena will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a
series of community events. The celebration will be held at Braemar Arena, 7501 Ikola Way, Edina.
A user showcase will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with on-ice experiences, vendor tables and photo displays.
The East Arena will showcase the Figure Skating Club from 8:40 to 10:20 a.m. and Skate School from 10:30 a.m.
to 2 p.m. A family open skate will be held at Backyard Rink from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
In addition, several games will be held throughout the day:
Edina Hockey Association Youth Games at the South Arena from 7:20 a.m. to 9:10 p.m.
High School Hockey Showdown at the West Arena from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and 5 to 9:30 p.m.
o 1 p.m. JV Girls
o 3 p.m. Varsity Girls
o 5 p.m. JV Boys
o 7 p.m. Varsity Boys
Alumni four-on-four Hockey Tournament at Backyard Rink from 8 a.m. to noon. (Interested alumni
should contact Braemar Arena at 952-833-9500. Registration costs $10 and includes hospitality table.)
o Alumni Years 1965-1975 play 8-8:35 a.m.
o Alumni Years 1976- 1986 play 8:45-9:15 a.m.
o Alumni Years 1987- 1997 play 9:25-10 a.m.
o Alumni Years 1998- 2008 play 10:15-11 a.m.
o Alumni Years 2008- 2015 play 11:15 a.m.- 12:15 p.m.
“In over 50 years of history, there have been a lot of people who have walked through the doors at Braemar,”
said Braemar Arena & Field Assistant Manager Roxann Maxey. “We would love to see players, community
members who have cheered for the players over the years, and the figure skaters who have competed at
Braemar turn out for the celebration.”
Several other events will be held leading up to and following the community celebration. An Anniversary Kick-
Off with open skating, Hornets boys’ hockey open practice and a history program featuring Braemar’s hockey
greats will be held 9 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Nov. 26 at Braemar Arena. The Edina History Museum will also
feature an Edina Hockey History exhibit on Saturday, Nov. 28. Finally, to conclude the anniversary celebration, a
Holiday Pops figure skating show benefitting VEAP will be held at Braemar Arena 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.
