HomeMy WebLinkAboutVEAP Toy Drive City of Edina • 4801 W. 50th St. • Edina, MN 55424 Contact: Mia Vacanti, Communications Intern Phone 952-833-9522 • commintern@EdinaMN.gov • www.EdinaMN.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina Fire, Police Departments Now Accepting Toy Donations Edina, Minn., Nov. 23, 2015 – The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections and Police departments are serving as collection sites for a toy drive benefitting Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) – a local non-profit serving Edina, Bloomington, Richfield and South Minneapolis. Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be collected until Friday, Dec. 11 at Edina Fire Station No. 1, 6250 Tracy Ave., and the Edina Police Department, 4801 W. 50th St. “Our two collection sites are usually the busiest for the program,” said Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Administrative Assistant Ruth Schmoll. “We collectively provide a very high percentage of the toys VEAP gets and we hope to have another successful year.” According to VEAP, the greatest need is for push-pull-roll and music-and-movement toys for children ages 0 to 3; picture and chapter books for ages 0-18; arts-and-crafts activities; learning games and sporting goods for children ages 4 to 18. VEAP also suggests hats, mittens, scarves and family games for all ages and $20 gift cards to local retailers for older children. This year, VEAP plans to serve 4,800 children in the area through its Holiday Store, designed to assist financially struggling parents provide stable and positive holiday memories for their children. Toys will be distributed to eligible families between Dec. 11 and 19. Fire Station No. 1 is open for collections 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Police Department is open 24 hours a day.
