Fire damages store at Southdale Center
Edina, Minn., July 3, 2015 – The Edina Fire Department was called to 10 Southdale Center at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, July 3, after receiving reports of a fire on the mall’s second floor.
Fire crews arrived to a smoldering fire in the H&M store, where some clothes had been on fire. One fire
sprinkler head kept the fire from spreading. However, there was smoke and water damage throughout the
store. Damage to Southdale Center was contained to the first and second floors of H&M. There were no
injuries.
“If it weren’t for the fire sprinkler system, this fire would have caused significantly more damage,” said Fire
Marshal Jeff Siems. “Luckily, one fire sprinkler head was able to keep the fire under control until fire crews
arrived.”
The Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from the Bloomington and Richfield fire departments.
The fire is still under investigation, but Police are treating it as a suspicious fire. The Edina Fire Department is
urging people who have any information about the fire to call the Edina Police Department, 952-826-1600, or
the arson tip line, 1-800-723-2020.
