The event is free of charge and includes a variety of activities. “Lighthouse Night and the Torchlight Concert have long been a tradition at Centennial Lakes Park,” said Centennial Lakes Park Assistant Manager Laura Knollmaier. “Considered a celebration of summer, the evening is filled with family-friendly fun.” Starting at 6 p.m., the Edina Model Yacht Club will light up the water with remote-controlled boats, while an array of family-friendly activities will be held on the park grounds. Face painting, antique organ playing, magician tricks, “pennyfarthing” bicycles and a Mechanical Man are a few of the many activities planned. Concessions, drinks and treats, including 25-cent ice cream cones, will be available for attendees to purchase. Park staff will ignite Tiki Torches around the Hughes Pavillion as the night sky grows darker, preceding the concert. “The First John Philip Sousa Band draws large crowds to the Torchlight Concert at Centennial Lakes Park, first performing in 1999,” said City Council Member Mary Brindle, part of the band. “Each year, audiences delight in the sights and sounds of the Torchlight evening.” The Sousa Fifes & Drums will begin their procession to the Maetzoid Ampitheater at approximately 7:45 p.m., preceding the headlining performance. The First John Phillip Sousa Memorial Band will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. for its “Torchlight Concert.” A dazzling fireworks display will cap off the night.
