HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-05-09 Park Board MinutesEDINA PARK BOARD MINUTES May 9th, 1978 Jack Rice called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. Members Present: Jack Rice, Chairman; Joan Lonsbury, George Warner, Al Fischer, Frank Gyetvan, Virginia Shaw, Mary McDonald, Lester Wanninger. Staff Present: Bob Kojetin, Rick Jacobson, John Keprios, Kathi Barkley. Visitors Present: Lee Otis, representing Adult Softball, Doris Johnson, Edina Garden Club. I. APPROVAL of Minutes of April 14th, 1978. Joan Lonsbury MOVED approval. Frank Gyetvan SECONDED. CARRIED. II. BRAEMAR CURFEW. Lights at the Braemar fields have been of concern to some of the homes near the area. It was discussed and decided that at 11:00 PM all games must be completed and lights will be turned out. Lee Otis was representing the Adult softball league and wanted the understanding that if only a small amount of time is needed to finish a game it would be granted to a team to finish the game. However, it was decided that all games have the same amount of playing time and the ruling will stand at 11:00 PM and light out. III. ARENA REPORT Bob Kojetin gave a brief report on the Arena. He introduced some possible new energy saving idea for the Ice Arena. The ceiling would have aluminum insulation. More information on this later. IV. DISC GOLF Bob Kojetin reports that the Disc Golf course will be in operation for public use. The company has agreed to allow the City one seasons use. The decision to purchase or not purchase the equipment will be made at the end of one seasons use. V. GRAND VIEW PARK PLAN Grand View Park is located South of Maloney Ave. and East of County Rd. 18. Bob Kojetin gave a brief summary of planning progress on the park layout. A committee will be formed to take the plan to the neighborhood in the Fall of this year. Page 2 Minutes 5/24/78 VI. DOGS IN THE PARK Bob Kojetin reported on what surrounding communities were using to control the dog defecation problem. It was found that most surrounding communities do also have a problem with dogs and some are trying to decide what can be done. Joan Lonsbury MOVED that the Park Board recommend to the City Council to amend City Ordinance Number 311, section 17 (b) found on page 46 to add and read as follows: "(b) No dog shall be permitted to be off the premises of the owner at any time unless it is leashed, owned must also be carrying a means to remove defecation. SECONDED by Virginia Shaw. CARRIED. VII. HOCKEY REPORT Both present and immediate -past Presidents of the Hockey Association were present. A lengthy report was given on the past year's happenings and philosophies of the associations. Jack Rice, chairman, asked both Presidents if they could ask for anything to help them with their program what would it be? Both answered more indoor ice time. The Park Board will be meeting with all of the Athletic Associations to become more informed of activities and any problems. VIII. RECREATION REPORT Rick Jacobson reported that the activity calendars are out. Soccer and Baseball Associations are in full swing, with 110 Soccer teams and 36 Baseball teams. Summer registration at Braemar Arena is starting on June 7th. IX. ART CENTER DEDICATION The Art Center Dedication will begin its ceremony at 2:30 PM on Sunday, May 21st. Approximately 400 people were there. Meeting adjourned at 11:00 PM.
