Turnbu I I MEMBERS ASSENT: F. Dean and F. Winter STAFF PRESENT: B. Kojetin, R. Jacobson and B. Paterson OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. O'Brien and M;rs. Magee I Jack Rice moved that the minutes of April 9, l974 be approved as written. Seconded by Fred Richards, motion approved. It. PLANNFNG REQUEST S-74-4 Bob iso jet in briefly reviewed the area for the 'proposed property dedication in regards to S-74-4 and recommended that the Park Coarct approve the cash vajue In Ileu of land. Mr. Adams questioned in what tinanner would this money be used. Mr. Kojefln stated that it would be for capital improvements and not used for operatIng funds. Don Pave; moved to accept the concept of the piars jing' Request S-74-41. Jack Rice seconded and the motion was appro,,.eed. PARK SHELTER SU I LD I NdS Bob Kojet fn described -the architect's plans and also materials that could be used In the buildings. He noted that there. w6uld be a savings of money if al;l the shelter buildings were of the same rater izil. The exterior of the building would be constructed of brick and the roof Esau lld be pitch and gr -ave[-. The interior wou I d be an open beam i tructure of a I I wood nlateri* ial. The f lour wou I d be a poured concrete slab with the restrbom walls construced of a durable glazed brick. Bob Kojetin stated that ,pec iaj facilities would have 'to be installed in the restrbom area -for the handicap persons. The exter f or of the building wou O d be constructed of a break off block and the roofing would be of asphalt or wood shakes depending on the outcome of bids Pat Turnbu 0 i GXpressed concern over the passible vranda l i sm damage to the roof and if there was not another method of roofing. Guyler Adams suggested coming up at a straighter angle with the roof thus making it more difficult to climb on the roof. Discussion was brought up by Pat Turnbull if a drinking fountain would be Installed on the outside of the building. Bob Kojet i n stated that because of the vandb l i sm pr,ob l em there were no drinking fountains prov i ded n however whenever activities occurred at the park, the buiiding would be open for access to the, drinking fountain and rests s. The Brasmar shelter buildings could be used as a wgarving house for crass country sk i ers or other war i nter ac t i va i t i es Lengthy discussion was held on the vandalism prob O em throughout .the C Ky's Parks and whether or not there was any recourse for the City to ask financial responsibility from the parents. It was also suggested that the City ask the help of the athletic associations for help in a campaign against vandalism. Mr. Adams suggested that one of the staff members work with 1r. Hyde, City Manager, to see what we as•..a City can do to combatvandaOlsm and see if the City and Schoo l s be O nvo l vaed in this campaign. Fred Richards moved that the Park Board approve the architects plans and concepts for the four park shelter buildings and the Braemar shelter building and bids be taken. Pat Turnbull seconded and the motion was approved. Bob Kbjet i n reported that many of Its spring activities were underway. Mr. iojetin reviewed the status of the Girls' Athletic° Association and their actlYties. As of this time, 385 girls have registered in the first girls c pet i t i vie sof tba l l program, youth soccer program has increased from 300 to 700 boys and g i r" l s registered this year and the summer basketball program has at t -h € s time, approximate0y 150 boys registered; however, it is hopes to have anothar° 000 boys registered by the We the program begins Rick Javobson reported that the Adult Slows Pitch program has begun with approxfmats0y 0,700 adults playing on 85 registered teams. May a 4 r 0974 V1. Discussion was held on the present status of the 44th Street Property. Mr. Kojetfn stated that they were still meeting with the architect for the plans. Fred Richards asked if them had been any progress on the financial wmmitwnts"' from private parties. Mr. Kojetin stated that some Monies had been found; however, he did not, know the details. Cuyier Adams asked if at the next Park Board meeting they could have some form of a financial report on these conmitmen'ts. Pat Turnbull questioned when the Park Board could review the architect's pians for the 44th Street Property. Bob Knjetin stated that the staff had been working mostly with the park•sheiter buildings and that they had not completed the plans for the 44th Street Property. Fred Richards encourag®d the Park Department to move ahead with this project as rapidly as they can. Vol. Joan Lonsbury brought the Park Board update on the status of the Bicentennial sub -committee.. The Council has approved the ford commission members and the commission has had one oilpinizational meeting. Mrs. L©nsbury will keep the Park Board informed as to it's progress. VVI SJ C, Cuyler Adams brought- she, Park Board up-to-date. as to the status of the mm liaison coittee between the golfers and the Park Board. Mr. Adams stated that the conrmi had been "g66hW with the help of Jack Rice and Fred Richards and that the Chairman of the"'bowittee is Jack Rice. Mr. Rice will attempt to get the committee together.'aswon as possible and will report back to the Park Board as to It's progress. OXO Dan Pavek asked about the meeting at Arden Park between the Park -Department staff and residents in the neighborhood. Jack Rice who had been present at this meeting discussed the suggestions and also the results. The consensus of the residents Is thatthe Park not be altered significantly although they would tike to see curbing around the park,'possibly some playground equipment and they would like to have a park shelter building. They did not want tennis courts planned at this time. .lack Rice reported that the meeting had been very Informative and thanked the Park Department for the excellent ,yob that they did to set up this meeting. X. Don Pavek also brought up the fact that a few of the residents In the area had contacted him in regards to Wooddate School playground ares.baing dev419ped Into a neighborhood park. He had referred these.residents to the Park Department and was wonder=ing the status. Mr. Kojetin had not spoken to any of these residents however, thought that Ken Rosland had had a few calls concerning this matter.
