Lansbury and F. Dean MEMBERS ASSENT: F. Winter STAFF PRESENT: K. Rosiand, B. Kojetin, R. Jacobson, M. Mohr and B. Peterson OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. Magee 1. Jack Rice moved that the minutes of Mat/ 14, 1974 be approved as wrli ten. Virginia Shaw seconded and the motion was approved. H. WALNUT RIDGE PARK - TRAFFIC PROBLEM Mr. Rosland reported to the Park Board the problem that has d veloped in the Parkwood Knolls area regarding car traffic. It has become a great concern to the citizens and Council to how traffic would move to the south out of Parkwood Knolls to Vernon Avenue. At present all traffic seems to exit on View Lane. Mr. Rosland presented the various alternatives that have been prop sed by the citizens task force. After review of a10 alternatives, Mr. Roslan pointed out the one concerning the Park Board would be that which proposes a road through Walnut Ridge Park approximately paralleling nin"ile cree . After a brief discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of all a0ternatives, Mrs. Shaw Roved that the Park mrd be unalterabiy opposed to placing a road in WaInut Ridge Park. Mrs. Lonsbury seconded and the motion. was approved. 0115. RECREATION REPORT Ms. Mohr reviewed the present status of the Edina Sr. Citizen f Club an their new facilities. Money had been received fry two service organizations to help with facilities In the buildings however, the response frcRi the bathers asking for donations has of yet not been well received by all sere ce clubs. Jack Rice asked if he could get an up --dated list- of items that are needed at the Center and also estimated costs. Cuyler Adams suggested that n order for more organizations to be involved, maybe pictures of the facility a taken and an artic0e written of where the equipment Is needed and placed in he Sun. At present, the membership,of the Sr. Citizen Club has increased t° approximately 350 members. Ms. Mohr also reviewed the status of the newly organized EdinO Girls' Athletic Association. They have organized a softball league with pproximately 450 girls participating. Games in all leagues should begin next- w k. aar� Bard 'Minutes -2- June H, , ;1974 Ken Ro- s i and suggested that a tour of all park faclOifles be taken by the Park Board to acquaint them with all available facilities in the Cit Dates were d0scussed to locate the most convenient time for a0O concerned. Ot was decided .that the tour should be held in the day time, 0ate afternoon, in place of the July Park Board meeting which would be July 9, 1974. lotbass will be sent to all members of the Park Board. Fred Richards asked if a date and time for the Braemar inspection Tour had boon decided. Ot was decided that since this year is Braemar's 00th Anniversary on June 22, the tour should be held near that date. The final date w010 be set and members notified. Rick Jacobson stated that the Student Center had closed as of May 31st. The swimming pool opened June 1st with ailvndance down because of the cold weather. He also notified the Boar=d that our major summer registration had been Tuesday, June 4th -starting at 5:00 pm at Braemar Arena. Cuyier Adams stated that he had received a few phone calls complaining about the long waits prior to the opening of registration. Suggestions were -given on how to handle this problem in a better manner. Ken Rosland reviewed the process of registration and also the reasons for it being done this way. Registration begins at 5:00 pm In order for the Park Department to get the extra help that is needed and this time of day also enables one parent to be horse with the youngsters if needed. With the number of activities that are on a first- come, first serve basis, this has been the on 0 y fair and equitable way to handle the registration. The site of registration was moved to Braemar because of the parking avail- ability. Next year; however, a few of the minor prob0ems will be alleviated. I V. PLAF N0NO REQUEST 5-74_6 Ken Rosland briefly reviewed the location of the pr=oposed r=equest which Is the OerteO First Addition generally located south of Waterman Avenue, north of lnter0achen and west of Ridge Road. It was recommended by the Planning Department and the Park Department staff that the cash value in lieu of land be accepted. Jack Rice moved to approve the acceptance of cash for 574-6. Pat Turnbul0 seconded and motion was approved. V. PLANK O FIC 5MEST S-74-7 Ken Rosiand reviewed the request and reminded the Board that this was the place of property where at first the developers proposed Ito donate Oand; however, the Parte Board recommended at that time not to accept It for park purposes since its was basically for drainage and storm ponding. The developer Is donating $52,000 in lieu of dedicated land for park purposes. Gamier Adams moved that €m accept Planning Request 5-74-7, cash value In lieu of land. Don Pavak seconded, wtion approved. Discussion was heOd on where this money is Wng held until used and a0so If a current tabuOation could be secured from Greg Luce, City Planner.
