MEMBERS PRESENT: R. Dieraks, D. Lewis, F. Richards, P, Turnbull and V. Shall
SUFF PRESENT: K. Rosland , R. jacobson and M. Bruns
OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. Hale
I. Mr. Lewis moved that the minutes of Aarch 11, 1972, be approved as
written. Mr. Turnbull seconded and the motion carried.
W. USE OF SCHOOL FACQUES
Mr. Rosland reported that a meeting had been held with various rep-
resentatives from the School District and the Park and Recreation Staff
on use of school gym and pool facilities. Starting this fall, after the
schools have first scheduled all their programs, they will turn over the
use of these facilities to the Park and Recleation Department without
cost. The only costs involved would be when janitorial staff has to be
called in for overtime work.
Ill. DIKE AND COMMUTER PATHS
Mr. Rosland stated the Biker
d Gcmmut6r Path Committee has gathered
together their fiaal raport which AM& presented to the Viliage COuncil
on June 19th. The Committee has also celled a special ineeting for the
Park Boari, Planning Commission and Environmental Quality CannissiOn.
Each member wlil recsive a copy of their report and notification of this

as wart of the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association. This is a newly
organized section within the Minnason Recreation and Park Assyciatl=
Hopefully the organization will be Wneficial to the furtherance of the
parks a"d rccreaYun In Hinnesota.
V� OPEN SPACE
Mr. altos land reported oa the informal group that has bean formed to
study what the park and open space needs may be in Edina, At the present
time, tpey have Isolated some 17 sites from one jot to 10415 acres. This
,,qcpes to have a report to present to the various Wirds sometime
in July or August.

New this year to the summer activities will be a playground program
at Creek Vailey School for the Edina Special Children's Group. This pro-
gram will be run similar to the winter program.
The Edina Lions Club has approached the Park and Recreation Depart-
ment with the possible donation of a portable stage. This stage could be
used for band concerts, theater and puppet shows, etc., in the various
parks.
A band concert will be hold at Cornelia Pool in June. This concert
will be sponsored by the Varsity Band.
V!U WILD FLOWER,GARDEN
The Edina Garden Council and the Park and Recreation Department have
printed a brochure outlining the wild flower garden and nature preserve
located In Braemar Park. The brochures are available at the entrance to
the preserve and also at the Park and Recreation Department

After much discussion on treating of aquatic weeds, using herbicides,
etc., Mr. Lewis moved see advise the Village Council of the problems us wCuld
have by not treating the weeiz and also ask the Environmental Quality Com -
BF iss!cn for their suggestions on what 10ion should be taken. Mrs. [hat's

V& YORKTOWN
Mr. Rasland outlined the proposed Yorktown Park being developed in
a new Vjwktawn development, He pointed out the $70,000 proposed budget
and -,,,ihut It wzs to include. All development costs will be handled by the
Yorktown developers.
