PARK GUARD MINUTES
August 13, 1968

as written. Dr. Jackson seconded and the motion carried,
The golf course financial statement for seven months ended July 319 1968,
was reviewed by the Board. The revenue thus far in 1968 was $113,389 as com-
pared to $101.,202 in 1967, ars increase of $1201+87,, Net income in 1968 totaled
$28,323 as compared to $34,249 in 1967 , a decrease of $5,926. The areas of
greatest concern that needed improvements in operation were clerical help in
the pro shop, operation of the driving range par 3 and the grill operation.
Harry Cooper stated that the .S.G,,A. visiting service agronomist had
visited the course and his report was favorable„ A complete written report will
follow in a few weeks.
III. B-WMAR ARENA REPORT
The financial report for the gena for seven months ended July 31, 1968,
was presented to the Board. Revenue thus far was $69,203 as compared to $741,766
in 1967, a decrease of $5063. Total expenses for this same period amounted to
$67,206 as compared to $63,697 in 1967, an increase of $3,509. Net income after
seven months of operation in 1968 was $1,997'a decrease of $9,072 over 1967.
This decrease, however, has been reduced $2,700 from the last financial state-
ment. Income is yap and by the end or 1968 the financial statement should be
as favorable as eche 1967 reuort.
Discussion was held on raising the prices of season tickets and ice rental.
No action was taken„
IVB, SWIMMING POOL REPORT
Season tickets and gate receipts for the swimming pool are up from last
Year. However, increases in operating expenses are anticipated.
V,, PURCHASE- OF LOTS - DIVISION AND RWLEDGE PARK
Mr. Roaland stated that in February the Park Board authorized the expen-
diture of up to $3,,Soo for •the purchase of Dots 1 & 2, Block 14, Clevelands
subdivision of Emma Abbott Pars, Negotiations have now been completed and these
two lots can be purchased for $3,500 plus $130 for taxes and special assessments.

Mr,, Lewis moved that these two lots be purchased for $3,500 plus $180 for
taxes and special assessments. Dr. Jackson seconded and the motion carried.
The Lions Club has requested the opportunity to build a picnic shelter
at Braemar Picnic Poi.nta 'this is the area where they have contributed heavily
in the past for the development of the picnic area, They would like to have the
Village finance it for them and they would pay the Village back at the rate of
approximately $14000 a year,, Niru Dalen, Finance Director, has stated that this
could possibly be worked out. lir. Rosland stated the Lions are presently work-
ing on cost estimates, designs and a financial arrangement to be submitted to
the Board for their approval.
V11, RECREATION REPORT
The summmr recreation programs have ended and plans are now underway for
the fall programs football and gun safety.
The last street dance was Saeid Friday, August 23 with about 500 paid teens
attending, Total net income over operating oupenses for all four dances came
to approximately $14000
Mr. Rosland reported that several young people in the Village are leading
a crusade for a teen center, They have been discussing the use of the old li-
brary building as an area to use as a teeny center on a "test basks". Mr. Rosland
stated that he has ,,challenged them to present a complete feasibility study on
the type of program they would run and hoar they would finance it. If approved
by the leen Recreation Board, it will be submitted to the Park Board.
VIII POLICE SERVXCE -
fir. Rosland stated a meeting was held with Mr. Hyde,, Chief Bennett, Cap-
tain Merfeld 4 Mr. Diercks and Mr., Giebink concerning police services. After
much discussion at this meeting the outcome was Haat the recon.rended special
policeman assigned solely to park responsibilities would not be budgeted in the
Park Budget, However. it is hoped that the Police Department could Gadd an . adb
ditional. police unit to each side of Highway 300 giving better coverage to the
parks. Also in special cases it was felt that an officer might be assigned to
special police duties when serious park problems arose. ter. Rosland has also
been invited to participate in training sessions in the Police Department to
relate park problem,
IXC PAMELA PARK
The fill project at Pamela :Park is moving relatively smoothly and it is
hoped that the 1000000 yards of anticipated fill will be ample to complete the
park,

X,, HUD LAKE
Mr, Lewis stated his concern about the possibility of so many apartments
being built around the Mud Lake area and was wondering about the affect they
would have on the, park,
After some discussion, Mr, Glebink moved that we urge the Planning Com-
mission to recogniZe the long range park plans for the Mud Lake area and that
they adopt plans consistent with the Park, and Recreation Department objectives
of the developments In this area, Mr. Conover seconded and the motion carried.
