Enroth, Carson, Lewis, Diercka, Jackson, Conover, and Stevens STAFF PRESENT: Messrs. Rosland, Kojetin, Bowen, and Miss Bruns OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. Taylor 1. Mr. Lewis moved that the minutes of September 12, 1966, be approved as written. Dr. Jackson seconded and the motion carried. 11, BRAIMAR A10MA Mr. Gordon Bowen reviewed with the Park Board his memorandum regarding installation of signs at the Arena. The three proposals were: 1. A sign 43raemar Arena" on the mouth side of the building identifying the building. 2. A sign at the entrance of the Arena off Highway 18. This sign could then replace the construction billboard that is still up. 3. A pylon sign identi- fying the ubole Braemar complex. Discussion was also held in regard to adequate lighting for the entrance to the Arena off Highway; 18 and for the length of the holding lanes on County Highway 18. Mr. Diercks recommended that a meeting be held with the Arena Com- mittee, Mr. Hyde, and Mr* Hite at the Arena site to discuss the problems and take action at that time. People living outside the Village of Edina who participate in the Breemar Figure Skating Club have requested that they be allowed to buy season tickets to the Arena. Mr. Roslond explained that these people come to the Arena for open skating during non ,crowded hours generally to practice. If this ticket Vaasa approved, the recommended cost should be W above the normal cost of the season ticket. Md. Conover moved that we approve the selling of season tickets to mem- bers of the Braemar Figure Skating Club at the cost of 50% above the normal cost to the residents of Edina. Dr. Carson seconded and the motion carried. It was brought to the attention of the Board that the night currently des- ignated as "Adult Night Only" at the Arena should possibly be dropped as lack of interest has been shawn in the nurever of adults attending. After some discussion, Mr. Diereks moved that we no longer designate one night for "Adult Night Only." Mx. Lewis seconded and the motion carried. St. Michael's hockey team from Canada has requested to play Blake School Friday*night, January 20th, at Breemar Aren, If this game is scheduled, open skating would have to be canceled for this night. Mr. Rosland pointed out that this is similar to last year's schedule when one evening of open skating was canceled for a hockey promotion. Mr. Lewis moved that we approve this request to have the game scheduled for January 20th, Mr. Enroth seconded and the motion carried. Edina Park guard Minutes rot October 3, 1966 111, B 1R WILD FLOWER GA� RLN Mr.'Rosland indicated that the Garden Clubs in Edina are now interested in furthering the Braemar Wild Flcraer Garden. Since the present location is next to the proposed lighted athletic area, it was suggested that all action on the Braemar Wild Plower Garden be tabled until a fo=ul plan of the athletic area and wild flower garden area could be presented to the Board. IV. PAR AMERICAN � �5 Mr. Rosland stated that he has been approached by the Pan American game officials in regard to the Village hosting part of the swimming trials for the Pan American Gaines, which will be held in Winnipeg in 1967. The Pan American Committee has made no definite request; however, when and if :they.do, it will be presented to the Board for their action. V. MUD LAKE Mr. Rosiand reported that he has been instructed to file a preliminary application for federal funds. This would give the Park Berard and Council some idea of the availability of federal funds should the Village definitely decide to use thea. Dr. Carson recommended that the Committee on Names should start thinking of an appropriate and official name for Hud Lake and the surrounding park lands. VI. RECREATION REPORT,p, The winter brochure has gone to press and will be in the homes in about two weeks. The winter registration will start Saturday, October 29th. October 10th will be the first night football game for the Edina Junior Football Association. Games will be played about four nights each week. VIZ. VANS The acute vandalism that has been done this pas•t summer and fail was brought to the attention of the Park Board. Just recently Highlands Park was vandalized abd about $400 worth of damage done. All the water fountains that were' installed this year at the various parks were damaged in some way. The swimming pool was also broken into this past seek end with about $25 worth of damage done there. Mr. Lewis moved that we offer a $130 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the vandalism at Highlands Park. Mr.. Diercks seconded and the motion carried. Edina Park Board Minutes -3- October 3, 1966 VIII. PROGRESS REPORT Mr. Rosland reported that Lake Edina and Heights Park have both been seeded %hich completes their scheduled construction for this year. The tennis courts at Pamela Park have been completed, are now curing, and will be ready for play within the next week to ten days.
