I- Minutes of the meeting of October 39 1956, wsxe approved on notion, seconied aid carried. 2- Mr. j. R. Addy's Final Plat, a re -plat of Block 9. Pormandale Addition, was .presented with recommendation for Onprovai, since it aCrucw with the preliminary. W Hyde reminded members that this plat was held up because of the "hold" tho Ccuncil had imposed on lawithin the pxoposed crosstown route, which expired October 1. Motion was made Z . Well, seconded Ly r,*x. Lvmjis, to recommend approval of this final plat. All in favor, notion carried. 3- Mr. Edward J. Lynch's Preliminary, a re -plat of parts of Lots 1, 2, 39 4 and 5, Garden Park, was studied and E�. Lynch was asked if ho plannad to develop a6join- ing land and if so, what his future plans were. It vies suggested that he "ait and bring in a plat incorporating all of the land so that Ka best possible use could be decided upon. Mr. French was also consulted waganjing park use of a portion of the land. Motion was made by Mr. Well, seco&ed by Mr. Lofqren. to table this plat until an over-all plat is brought in. Final Plat of Ronnei's First Addition, being the Wrth 175 Wet of Block 10, Mendelssohn, was presented and approval recommended. !�. W&I moved, Mr. seconded a motion that this plat be recommended for appyovQ! su!'ject to an engin- eering check. Carried. N 5- Petition for vacation of 59th Street east of Drookview, signed by Francis and Laurella Maxsonp who live at 5845 Brookview, was Yead by Nr. Todd. Potion was made, seconded and carried to refer this matter to the Park board for considaia- tion. 6- Letter of _'.quest from Minneapolis Comamission for a rep. asentative fro. -ii Edina to enrve on the local worangemants coxvittes for the annual conference of the American Society of Plzzning Officials to to held in Minneapolis in 1959, was also read by Mro Todd. AW4 a brief discussion2 motion was made by Wr. Cdellp seconded by Mr. Lowis, W carrive to agpoln! W. Todd to do the honors. 7- Reconrrendations from Village Asscssox Alox Creighton regarding platting were read by Mr. Todd, who asked that copies of same be made for each member. 8- Petition from D'Arcy Leckg asking consideration for zo0ng to commeicial a 200 foot strip of land at 70th and France !,tie us, was receivej and Karl Covell, Attorney representing Mr. Leck, stated that inannuch as tho zoning of the Village is being studied at this time, his client merely want& consideration for com- mercial zoning, having no spacific purpose in mind at tAls time. Fie said Fie thou,ht ?ht the question of the desirability of an Industrial Park is a matter which should be decided upon by the Plana ing Co=n%mission and Council. I -A . Gardner suggested that if a 1,,rcje "bl?.ae chip`' typo of industry carne to Edina, it would be Fetter than if several smaller indvstr i es came in. He said the railroad and Trunk Highway 4100 were not especially desirable as access routes when considering the entire metrc- politan area, cr possible markets. He also said he thought there should be no industrial development west of the railroad. Mr. Toad theca asked Planning Commission membars if they had any questions. Mr. 06oll asked P:".-:. '.'ardner if he had studied any other area in the Vil.bge t fat would lend itself to industrial development. PFx. Gardner replied that he had not. NIx. Todd asked if he thought the property west of lthe railroad was suitable for very fine homes and Mx. Gardner said he saw no reason -why they should not be th- same quality of 'horres as we have in the rest of the village. Mr. Hyde mentioned that e I-iave a purchase a roement for a park which would include a golf course in than general a 'n a. t.•` . Todd agreed that, in substance this land lends itself -to re_ lAontial and par': area instead of to Industrial, park development. Mr. Lofgren asked if it wouldn't be a rood tieing if a large industry came in and %9x. Gardner agreed that it would be a fine thing. yLT. Gardner thought we could do with the southwest corner adjoining 13'o0:n:i.ngton. 'Mr, Gardner replied that the ideal situation would be for Edina t� acquire the strip north of -tllry belt line, which now belongs to Bloomington. MY. Tupa did not have a question but said he thought we should continue r4r. C°ardner's snarly with an overall plan for the entire Village, r
