Edina Planning Commission Minutes -3- INovember 14, 1962
P-62--8 Hem oa a Horne For_ TWa__Laja„r-1(See minutes of 6-6-62). It was
reported that the plans for the home for the elderly approved by the
Council on June 25, 1962, had been revised and they were now being
resubmitted to the Commission for consideration and possible approval.
The new plans were presented by ?h. Don Leaf of the Heritage Corporation.
It was noted that the number and size of units remained unchanged
but that pullman kitchens had been incorporated into each unit to
satisfy an FHA requixenient. Wa. Leaf assured -the Commission that
the homes would nevertheless operate as a boarding home with all
meals being served in the main dining room. Other changes included
moving of the day rooms to permit outside exposures and placement
of all rooms along a single center corridor. It was generally
agreed that most of the changes had been made to reduce construction
costs, and that much of the architectural interest of the building
had been lost in the process.
Mr. Hite suggested that the cfiners of the proposed home install a
sidewalk from their hone to the bus stop on Xerxes and that they
also consider building a waiting shelter at the stop.
Pair. Gustafson moved that the revised plan be approved. ter. Griswold
seconded the motion Y1,,hich carried unanimously.

SP -62-2.:. Evvood Adion., This proposed 10 lot plat of Lot 43 and 44
Auditor's Subdivision No. 325 is located at 5305 Blake Rd.
Ma. Hite advised that the proposed lots were generally smaller than
those in adjacent subdivisions but that they would be serviced with
public sewer. He noted that the proposed road had been placed or"£
center on the property in an attempt to save the existing house
and that as a result the lots on the north side of the road were
quite shallow.
W. Grisrjold suggested that other platting designs be investigated
with the intent of developing a better balance in lot sizes. Two
possible changes considered were moving the house to permit
centering o; the road, or adding more property to the north portion
of the plat.
Tabled for further study.
