Vir. Don Anderson, representing the Rouenhorst Company, said
that they were asking that the Corimiission act only on the
80 acres of land betiw!een 1400 and 7800 France at this time.
He added that they had a nur,.,be-r of possible buyers for the
axed, end that they were consequently anxious to move ahead.
lie cautioned the Com fission against zoning too much of the
area for offices rather than industT, !, saying that the land
not only had a better potentia for industrial development,
but that there vz,,era many other sites in Edina suitable for
office use which could probably not be used for industry.
The Co mission generally agreed that the West 76th Street
alignment should not Separate the Vi"le,90 Part, from the
lake as suggested in Plan B, and that the use of the
PXOPexty south of Newt 76th Styeet for industry tvass appropriate.
It was nan_nzaily concluded that the i-)roposed car.1-marcial
development along France Avenue, as suggested in Plan 3, was
not advise!310 e=CPt for a possible gas station site within
the area, _It- 76th and France. NO clear agreement
vias reached regarding the advis,abili,',-y of Permitting industrial
uses north of lNest 76th Street, although this was generally
regarded as a pxobable SOUEce of diflziculty in developing
the adjacent ;properties to the north.
Mr. J. Ro),,,eT--L Kelly, Pxesident, of the South Garden Estates
Association, asked if the considera4Cion could be continued
until such time as his group had had an opportunity to discuss

It wmentioned that the construction of a lodge hall on
the SW cooncr of 70th and Hwy. 100 was considered at the last
meeting when thele was not a quolum.
NY. Hite presented the plan and classified the activities
Of the lodge as comparable to those of a church, rather than to
those of an Amazican Legion or VFK Hall. The Lodge would
be interested in about seven or eight acres he said, and
since this is considered as a troublesome zoning corner,
Q. Hite felt that this proposed use would be as acceptable
as anything that couid be expected. Mr. Robert Doyle, 5028
West 70th Street, opposed the plan pioposed because of the
social activities that would be caxy5ad on. Mrs. Henry T.
Willette, 5100 West 70th Street, expiassed her opposition to
the plan and Mi. James H. Taylor, 5002 Nest 70th Street, felt
that there would he a bettor chance of developing the remaining
area if a church oo two-family dwelling were constructed on
tho site.
It was suggosted pis ,4 Mr. Hegman, who had presented the plan
at the August 7 meating, return at the September 11 meeting
to explain the pzoposa! in detail.
