P. -Ir. Stevens reviewed with the Boa"axd the revi ed iD year park
lmprovomont.s ;alma dated June 1, 10,62. There vas a $68,800 carry over
from the M62 program vahich gives a $206,300 balance available for
1963.
The major Items that iaill be completed under the proposed 1,0963
Program are as follovisa 5 parka will be pant into an operational
status „ Garden, Division and Rutledge, Lake Edina, Countryside and
Birchcresty Apparatus will be ,placed at 11 locations, 4 tennis courts
at Highlands and 2 at Cornelia School.
In looking over the 10,63 Improvements program, Mr. Adams pointed
out that approximately C% of the total money spent was in some fora
of land improvement. He asked If It was possible if more money could
be diverted into some other areas such as construction of more tennis
courts or a ip -.nt. Mr. Stevens stated that land fill, of course,
Baas a necessity to put these various areas into shape for other uses.
He also stated that he was concerned and interested in moving from the
land fill prcgram to the active uses of parka. After some discussion
of the various aspects of the 1963 program, the Board felt that a
field trip %veld be of great benefit in making recommendations for this
coming years ,pxagram. The Board decided to take a field trip Saturday,
February 0, at MOO A.I.I.
Action was deferred until the Park Board meeting of ?3arch 4.

Mr. Stevens asked P:Ir. Diarcks to study the ,plantings plan with
his committee and present a recommendation endati+on to the Parte Board for
action at their matt meeting.

r r. Stevens read to the Board a letter from t:Ir. Theodore W. Thomson
oatpressing his concern that the course Is to be built on peaty land.

in this letter he related his past experience with courses built on
land of this nature. mir. Stevens also read a letter written by
Don Brauer at his request explaining the peat situation on the golf
course and what is being done to cope with it.
Members of the Park Board requested further information on this
subJ ect. It was referred to Mr. Diercks and his committee for further
study and a report to be made at the next Park Board meeting.
