Adjournment MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF EDINA HERITAGE PRESERVATION BOARD HELD TUESDAY, MARCH 22, 1983, AT 8:00 P.M. EDINA CITY HALL MANAGER'S CONFERENCE ROOM MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Foster Dunwiddie, Gordon Stuart, Frank Thorpe, Gary Nyberg and Lois Wilder STAFF PRESENT: Harold Sand I. Approval of Minutes: Gary Nyberg moved approval of the February 22, 1983, minutes. Lois Wilder seconded. All vote aye. II. Self Guided Tours of Edina Foster Dunwiddie presented a revised historical driving tour. The direction of travel was reversed due to traffic and parking considerations; the estimated driving time is 1-2L hours. Harold Sand presented additional material for the Country Club Walking Tour. Mike Mullen of Brown Institute has expressed interest in producing the tapes with student help. They can review the scripts, produce the narrative, add music and duplicate tapes in the school studio. The students would be paid and the school suggests a donation to their student loan fund for the use of the facilities. The Board generally agreed that this was a good approach for the tours. III. Edina Expo 183 Foster Dunwiddie said the museum committee of the Edina Historical Society will meet next Tuesday to discuss the display at Edina Expo. The Historical Society has produced renderings of the Baird house and St. Patricks Church. They have also printed new note paper for sale. The Expo hours are between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday, April 16 and 12 and 5 p.m. Sunday, April 17. Gary Nyberg and Gordon Stuart volunteered to attend the display and represent the Board. IV. Other Business A. National Heritage Preservation week is scheduled May 8 - 14. B. The Edina Mills Kiosk has been repaired. C. There are photographs of two Edina dwellings in "Minnesota ' Architecture; Building in Style", The winter, 1983 issued of "Roots" magazine published by the Minnesota Historical Society. D. West 50th Street construction. Mr. Sand advised the Board that the City Council recently discussed various alternatives for the reconstruction of West 50th Street between Highway 100 and Halifax Avenue. The Council authorized Fran Hoffman, City Engineer, to seek variances from the Minnesota State Aid Construction Standards to permit the reconstruction of the street at the present width using state funds. The Edina Heritage Preservation Board Minutes of March 22, 1983 Page two street is adjacent to two National Register districts and the engineer has requested the assistance of the Heritage Preservation Board in preparation of the variance application. Mr. Dunwiddie offered a resolution to commend the action of the City Council for seeking preservation of the present pavement width and offer the assistance of the Heritage Preservation Board in the variance request. Mr. Thorpe seconded. All vote aye. Motion carried. V. Next Regular Meeting Date: April 26, 1983 Vl. Adjournment Lois Wilder moved to adjourn. Cordon Stuart seconded. All voted aye.
